What do you do to help deal with panic attacks?

I'm curious to know what people do & don't do in order to deal with their anxiety, panic or agoraphobia?

I realize that most people say cognitive therapy & facing your fear are the number one thing but let's say you don't have money for treatment or medication or a support person.

Any interesting coping ideas or distraction ideas when you do decide to venture out?

What kind of technique did your psychologist use if you don't mind me asking. I'm just started seeing one but not sure how its going as we just talk and that's it. He hasn't used any techniques on on with me as far as I can tell. Its nice to talk but not sure how far that will get me.

I look for free hypno on google but they always want to be paid.

Is there a link you found?

I have a book for anxiety by dummies...I havn't read it yet so after the work book i'm on right now I will read that one next. I didn't think dummies was really that good but I will take your advice

I've was seeing a psychologist for a year but now I'm working through the dummies book to anxiety and depression and it's fantastic!  It's easy to read and understand and gives you step by step actions to take. I think it's really helped me change my thinking patterns.

You should check if they have one for panic attacks.

I have also downloaded hypnotherapy sessions and I listen to it everynight before I go to sleep.  Just do a google search on free hypnotherapy downloads and you will find a couple of sites where you can get them for free. Hope this helps?

Please email if you have any questions. Good Luck!

I've heard the breathing works...I will concentrate on that more as well as visualizing relaxation from toes on up.

I can get meds, I was on them but I just didn't like them for me I felt like I was covering something up and not really addressing the issue. its one of those things that I'm open about but want to find alternative ways or herbs.

Tylenol? Wow really!? I never would have thought of that. What kind of tyenol?

Thank you for your imput

This may sounds silly but my cousin has has anxiety longer then me and I am on medication now and didnt have it with me and she talked me through a panic attack.

You actually need to stop and breath deep breaths and start at your toes and imagine your toes relaxing and when they feel relaxed move up you leg and so on.  It sounded so dumb to me but I was in a desperate attack and needed help and it worked.

Also if you can afford the medications through prescriptions, Im not sur ehow severe you attacks are but when you feel one coming on, Tylenol always used to work for me.  It wa slike a miracle, i would start shaking and freaking and take tylenol and it would calm me down.  Dont know why that works either but it does.  Hope this helps a little
